Sting’s Dedication®

When I lived in Los Angeles I worked for an artist-management company. Shortly after I left I got a call…”Sting and his family are in L.A. for a week and they need someone to help out in the home office…are you available? They will be staying in Bruce Springsteen’s house.” Instant flashbacks to a medley of Roxanne and Born To Run…you bet I was available.

So it’s Grammy night and Sting and Trudie are getting dressed…when it happened. Sting didn’t have any cufflinks.Crisis. Everyone was flying around the house but there were none to be found. Every McGyver bone in my body kicked in and I scanned the office for possibilities. My eyes landed on a shopping bag and I saw my answer. Snatching the scissors from the desk, I cut the twine handles from it and raced up the marble stairs.

There he was, standing in Bruce’s closet – I instantly smelled the leather vests – and before I had time to realize how freaky it was, I grabbed Sting’s wrist and began knotting the twine through his beautiful French cuff. He just looked at me and in that melting, proper accent and said “What do you do?” (Note: Expect to be a dork if Sting ever speaks to you.)

I replied, “I’m exploring my creative side”. UGH…then I spun around and flew back down the stairs and into the office.

I don’t ever need to know if he stopped at the first open jewelry store that he could find. All I know is that he left for the Grammy’s in that limousine and his sleeves were not hanging low. And, at that very moment I rocked.

What a great story! I do remember that night and your ingenuity as well. And no, we never did stop to buy any other cufflinks…I recall yours holding up just fine!
